Abstract

The subject of this study is an Iranian title found in a phrase from the Syriac hymn known as the Hymn of the Pearl. This title, corresponding to the term pasāgriw in Middle Persian Manichaean texts, carries a meaning close to “heir apparent.” The article further presents a summary of scholarly opinions concerning the word Sārūya and provides the Persian translation of Ilya Gershevitch’s view on the historical background of the name Takht-e Jamshid (Persepolis).
