The subject of this eighth installment of Shāhnāmeh Notes is a set of rare or less frequently attested words in Ferdowsī’s Shāhnāmeh. Their infrequency may be related to the dialect of the compilers of Ferdowsī’s sources. The author’s proposed interpretations regarding the meaning, etymology, or textual form of these words diverge from the views of earlier scholars, and the reasons for such divergences are explained in the article. The words under discussion are: parvār, āgīn, durgar, parandāvar, and seṭarkh.
