In this article, the author examines the term rābi‛a as it is defined and interpreted in a range of Arabic lexicons. In order to clarify the semantic nuances of the term more precisely, special attention is devoted to the expression ka-l-shams fī rābi‛at al-nahār (“like the sun in the fourth part of the day”). Through a comparative analysis of lexicographical sources, the study investigates the various meanings attributed to rābi‛a and evaluates their implications for understanding this expression. The article thus contributes to a more accurate interpretation of the phrase and highlights the importance of lexicographical analysis in the study of classical Arabic texts.
