Kāshifi’s Mavāhib-i’ aliyya is a Persian commentary on the Qur’an which has combined an explanatory translation of Qur’anic verses in simple, concise Persian with highly selective citations from other works of tafsir and Sufi poetry and prose. In this article, the author intends to declare the reasons which have led to the popularity of Kāshifi’s book. Hence, she first of all discusses the Mavāhib’s place among Persian commentaries. Secondly, she examines in detail Kāshifi’s method and his style of writing in Mavāhib-i’ alyya. In the end, he explores Shiism and Sufism’s ideas in Mavāhib.
