Introducing the Manuscripts of Changing the Letters
An Unpublished Translation of Ottoman Academic Council’s Statement about Changing of the Letters of Islam
There are a few manuscripts regarding the issue of changing the letters. Out of them, one of the sources is Akhundzāde’s book which consists of two pamphlets attached to each other. One of these pamphlets is about eight pages and written in Persian, and the other one is sixteen pages and written in Istanbul Turkish. In the present study, the author, first of all, brings up the reasons of the changing the letters such as its being newly established, the arrival of publishing industry, the books’ being compact and not catalogued, and the old writers’ living abroad. Afterwards, he introduces ten manuscripts regarding changing of Persian letters. Having talked over Akhundzāde’s autobiography, he publishes Akhundzāde’s manuscript in Persian which has not been available so far. In the last part of this article, the writer presents the first and the last pages of SavādTaghrir by Ottoman academic council, a translation of the Ottoman academic council’s statement, and also the text of an article about the aforementioned subject which was read by ManifAfandi in Ottoman academic council.
