A Dialogue between Islam and Christianity in First Decade of 20th Century in Isfahan

Abstract

In the first decade of 20th century, Isfahan Seminary School built an institute called Isfahan Safākhāne for the dialogue between Moslems and Christians. In this Institute, Moslems’ representative talked to Christians’ representative; and their speech were writtenand published in Al-Islam magazine. When England penetrated Iran and then churches started to influence society, some scholars of Isfahan Seminary School established this magazine in order to plead a cause with Christian scholars. Therefore Al-Islam is a religious magazine which has been published not only to stop the propagation of Christianity in our Islamic society, but also to try to attract the Christians’ attention to Islam. This magazine includes a report of the religious dialogue which was entitled SorurQeibi (Hidden Happiness), biographies of some well-known scholars such as Fakhr Al-Islām and Rokn Al-Malek, and some of the letters which were sent to the magazine. Only 38 volumes of this magazine are published in Iran. In 1323, Muhammad Ali Dā’ie Al-Islām, Moslems’ main representative was settled in Mumbai, and started publishing a new magazine titled Da’vat Al-Islam, whose main subject was Islam and Christianity, in Persian and Urdu. In the present article, the author first of all points out the unique features of the magazine, and next provides a brief report of its subjects.
