Abstract
Islamic hagiographic life writing can be applied in historical research in different ways. These works can certainly be used to write the history of mysticism,the history or biography of single characters, and also to write the history of religious thought in general, and even to write the social history. In the following paper, the author has made attempts to focus on the narrative pattern of these works, and connect this pattern with the fundamental purpose of Islamic hagiographic life writing that is to keep alive the charisma of the heroes of these works. Regarding this, he deals with one of the Persian earliest monographs and puts it alongside with another one of the Persian monographs which belongs to the East of Iran and is written in the 6th century (almost contemporary with the other one). The last section of this article is a careful studying of one of the anecdotes about Karamatfound in Ghaznavi’s work.
