The relation between Shia theology and Mu›tazila theology, and in particular the influence of Mu›tazila theology system on Imamiya theology has been one of the most controversial issues in the history of Shia theology. Various, sometimes contradictory, ideas have been expressed with regard to this issue. In this paper, first, the various views expressed on this issue by various scholars over the past decade have been summarized and reported. And then, the author explains his chosen view in this regard. According to the author, Imamiya›s official theologians, particularly since Sheikh Mufid›s (d: 413 AH) time, have gradually become influenced by the «Mu›tazila theological discourse» at the stage of explaining and writing about beliefs and discussing theological issues. It means that while in the matter of doctrines and principles of belief they were quite independent, they have used Mu›tazila›s mind, language, expression, and theological systemin their own choice of words, and have presented theological issues in Mu›tazila›s special way of thinking and writing. This effect was due to the common theology knowledge of the time of the theologians which force the Imamiya theologians to have the same language, speech and style of Mu›tazila›s, and also due to the informed choice of Mu›tazila›s theological method as the best method of discussing theology at that time.

Among the merits of Amthal wa Hikam, by Dehkhoda, are the translations which he has presented from prose and poetic sentences. One of the most prominent features of Dehkhoda›s translation is its being archaic and pure Persian, so sometimes the usual readers may not understand the translations correctly. Through several pieces of writing, the author has tried to find the translated parts of Amthal wa Hikam, and presents them along with the Farsi and Arabic diacritical signs. The forthcoming article, a note in a series of notes about history, culture and literature, present a part of the translations of the first volume of the book.

Qabasāt min Ilm er-Rijāl, by Muhammad Reza Sīstāni, can be considered as one of the books on Rijāl studies (biographical evaluation). This book, compiled by Muhammad Boka›, contains Sīstāni›s jurisprudential writings, and his scattered papers. It has ten chapters in which the general points and rules of Ilm-e Rijāl (biographical evaluation) are presented. Some parts of the book are related to the recognition of the narrators, so they are dealing with the identification of the correct names of the narrators, the strategies which help address the damages of mispronunciation (tashif) and distortion (tahrif), the rules of discovering the identity of the narrators, and the basics of finding out about the trustworthiness of the narrators. Another part of the book is presenting some strategies of correcting the documents such as changing of document, book-based assessment, and the use of probability calculation. Some other parts of the book are also talking about the authentication of the hadith sources, and discuss the evidences of proving their attribution. The author of the following article is going to introduce the mentioned book in detail, and study the book writer›s rijāli principles and methods, and then present them coherently. Regarding this, he, first of all, review the chapters of the book, and afterwards examines the writer›s principles and methods.

One of the ways to find the Shiite Imams› hadiths is to seek other sources of Islamic denominations including Sunnis and Zaidiyyah. Finding these hadiths in the sources of these denominations has many scientific benefits such as finding a part of Imams› hadith heritage which is not in Imamiya›s sources or is refined, decrypting the mispronunciations and distortions of the texts and document, discovering the parallel ways of narrating hadith, and… One of the efforts made to achieve these goals is the compilation of al-Mustadrak os-Sāni Levasāel al-Shia, whose secondary title is Ahadith ol-A›emat ol-Tāhirin Be Asānīd ol-Ᾱma wa al-Mokhālifin, by Sheikh Mahmud Qānsoo Shahābi Ᾱmeli. The book has 21 volumes, and its writer searched hundreds of sources both the ones which are exclusively for hadiths and the ones which are not. He has collected around 25000 hadiths including the ones which are in a way narrated by Imams or written by them. The author of the present paper is going to introduce this work based on its writer›s introduction to the book, and then discuss its characteristics. He also mentions some of the critical considerations regarding thisbook.

Tahsīl on-Nijāt fi Osool ed-Dīn, by Fakhrolmuhaqiqīn (682—771 A.H.), is written about the principles of Islamic beliefs. This book is produced at the request of Nāsireddīn Hamze bin Hamze bin Muhammad bin al-Alavi al-Husseini, and is written down by Seyyed Ghiyāthoddīn Abdulkarīm (death, 770 AH) who is one of Allāme Helli’s five nephews. The only surviving copy of this book, which has been identified in Iran, belongs to the University of Tehran, No. 1771. This version has become wet, so some of its pages, words, and sentences are not readable and this makes it difficult to correct the work.

Realism and Beauty: Having a Look at Leaman›s Reading of Islamic Aesthetics

Islamic Aesthetics: An Introduction, by Oliver Leaman, is a critical book or, it would be better to say, the most critical available book about the Islamic art or those who believe in a phenomenon called Islamic art. The book was published by Edinboro University in 2004, and the second edition of its Farsi translation, translated by Ahmadreza Abolqāsemi, was published by Māhi publication a while ago. Although each of the chapters in the book is about one of the fields of Islamic art, the main part of the book, in which Lehman›s central critique of the Islamic theorists› claims is presented, is the first chapter which is called «Eleven common mistakes about Islamic art» which mentions the drawbacks that attacks different areas of Islamic art. Nevertheless, all of the problems are not mentioned exclusively in this chapter, and in other chapters, each of which deals with a particular realm, Leaman has also raised important points and influential arguments with regard to both matching the general criticisms with detailed instances and criticizing the fans of Islamic art. In the present article, the author first gives a brief report of Leaman›s most important ideas regarding the Islamic art. Following this, he discusses some of the general or detailed critiques of Leaman›s ideas and approaches. Finally, he is going to mention some of the points related to the book translation.

An Introduction to the Sunni Sects and An Introduction to the Shiite Sects are two books which are about different sects of Islam. In spite of the merits and strengths that these two books have, they also have some weaknesses. With regard to the books› several reprints, their gaining great trust, and their being used as a main source in both university and the Seminary school, the critique of these two books seems necessary and inevitable. These two books have been reviewed in three parts of structure, content, and writing. While mentioning the strong and weak points of the work, the author of the paper presents some examples of the text. It is to be hoped that reinforcing the positive points, and working on the problems of the books can help improve the Islamic sciences.
